The 2019 AAFCS, Texas Conference will be held April 11-13, 2019 at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock, Texas. The theme for the conference will continue with the national theme “Cultivating Social and Emotional Competence for Healthy Relationships.” It is the hope of organizers that our national president, Cindy Miller, will join us for the opening session. The luncheon speaker for Friday will be Sarah Fry who will discuss “Emerging Trends in the Workplace in Consideration of Emotional Health for the Family .” Sarah is Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for the North American Coal Corporation. The Friday night awards speaker will be Dr. Mark Faries, A Health and Wellness Specialist with Texas A&M University AgriLife Extension Service. He will speak on “Optimize Your Health: Reward Yourself.” Dr. Faries will continue his topic during the brunch on Saturday that will expand upon the importance of family time, hobbies and time for yourself.

Paper based testing registration will be set up for the AAFCS-Tx Affiliate Conference on April 13, 2019. Candidates are eligible to register for one of the five exams (FCS Composite, HDFS, HNFS, PFFE, and the NWE) Please be advised, candidates testing to qualify for Texas teacher certification/licensure will have their test scores sent directly to Texas Education Agency (TEA) only if they are registered for the following exams:
- 200-Family and Consumer Sciences-Composite Exam
- 201-Hospitality, Nutrition & Food Science – Concentration Exam
- 202-Human Development & Family Studies – Concentration Exam
Janet Rodriguez, AAFCS-TX Executive Director, will proctor. All candidates must register for the conference. There will be a one day registration fee for Saturday only, which will include brunch.
